A Drive of 26 Hours

Posted FRIDAY JULY 6TH, 2012 4:19 AM

This video is a time lapse featuring myself and a friend from college back in January 2008. He went home to Kentucky for Winter Break and was giving a beauty of a van. With school starting up in January closely approaching. He got a hold of me and asks if I would drive back to Phoenix with him. I said absolutely and used his ticket to fly back over to his home.. Met his family and a few friends. It was a great time. Now with the trip back to Phoenix right before us. We get things ready for the long journey ahead of us. 26 hours of non-stop driving is definitely an unholy trek, but between the two of us. It wasn’t entirely so bad. We only really stopped for gas and I think once specifically for the restroom.

For capturing the many images, I used my Nokia N95. Which has a 5MP camera. I got it at the end of 2007 and always wanted to do a time lapse. So this trip was perfect. I set my N95 to take a 1600×1200 picture every 10 seconds. In the end it was 9010 images in the time frame of the drive. Minus where I got a phone call which stopped the camera and had to answer.

I made a rig to hold the camera with packaging tape and secured it to the dash. Chayse got a car lighter adapter which we plugged in our phones. With out the AC plug my phone wouldn’t have lasted. It didn’t get the same power from a usb ac plug.

I redid the video completely for this post. Originally the video resolution was 1024×768 and took forever to process. Since I was going to redo this little project, I decided to do it at a higher resolution. Due to the aspect ratio of the original images. 1440x1080p was what I decided to work with. Interestingly enough, this did seem to take nearly as long to render out as it did the first time at lower resolution.

This is actually my first Youtube video submission.
